Coalition for Future Mobility Expands Membership Advocating for Autonomous Vehicles Legislation

March 1st, 2018

Washington, DC – The Coalition for Future Mobility, a diverse group supporting federal leadership in bringing automated vehicle technology to the marketplace, announced today the addition of four new members. The coalition has now expanded to 31 members, recently welcoming Aptiv, CTIA, What3Words and the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America to its advocacy effort.

The Coalition for Future Mobility urges Congress to pass bipartisan legislation that will accelerate life-saving technology by allowing the safe testing and deployment of automated vehicles.

The House of Representatives passed The SELF DRIVE Act (H.R. 3388) last fall, and the Senate is poised to soon pass the AV START Act (S. 1885). Both bills would help remove existing barriers to technological and automotive innovation, as well as improve safety and mobility for Americans nationwide.

Autonomous vehicles promise to bring significant mobility benefits to older Americans and people with disabilities, as well as a cleaner environment – via reduced congestion and carbon emissions – and safer roads.

Coalition membership is comprised manufacturers and suppliers, technology and transportation leaders and representatives of groups advocating for the disabled, seniors and veterans. Its newest members include:

Aptiv is a global technology company that develops safer, greener and more connected solutions, which enable the future of mobility.

CTIA represents the U.S. wireless communications industry and the companies throughout the mobile ecosystem that enable Americans to lead a 21st century connected life. CTIA vigorously advocates at all levels of government for policies that foster continued wireless innovation and investment.

What3Words has developed a new way to talk about location, having divided the world into a grid of 3m x 3m squares and assigned each one a unique three-word address. With this service, anyone can accurately find any location and share it more quickly and easily.

The Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA) is the national trade association representing the wholesale tier of the wine and spirits industry. It is dedicated to advancing the interests and independence of wholesale distributors and brokers of wine and spirits and promoting the responsible use of beverage alcohol.
